Abby's Corner

We live in a tiny one bedroom apartment (which we love - mostly) so Abby doesn't get her own room.  She gets a corner.  We partitioned off part of our room with a tall wardrobe so it feels like we each have our own space.  And really, most importantly, so she doesn't see us and want us to pick her up in the middle of the night. We have had this set up for several months now and had every good intention to make Abby's corner more than just bare walls.  We are the slowest decorators on the planet though, mostly because neither of us really have any sort of design talent and we take forever to decide what we like or what would look good.

But finally a couple months ago (again, it takes us a while) we stumbled across an amazing artist who does watercolors.  We loved all her work, especially the animals, and she has a beautiful collection of LDS temples.  So we picked out several to hang in Abby's corner.  And now, at last, her walls are no longer blank!

Our pictures of the pictures really don't look that great, but believe me that it is a huge improvement. And, hopefully soon, those other walls won't be blank either.

Ball game with Abby

We took Abby to her first pro baseball game last night.  We went back and forth for a while on whether we should go since the game wasn't going to start until her bedtime. But it was Mormon Night at the Padres and the tickets were cheap so we decided to just do it and cross our fingers that she would stay happy and hopefully be able to sleep some. We decided to take the bus downtown since we only live about 2 miles from the stadium which also made it Abby's first time riding a bus!

Since it was Mormon night we got to join a tailgating party with free food (always nice!) with other BYU alum and then walk around the outfield before the game.  We all wore Mormon Helping Hands yellow shirts as part of highlighting some of the service the Church has done.  Abby even got to wear one, though by the time we got our shirts they only had adult XL left so Abby was swimming in her shirt.

Waving to the crowd!

That shirt is so huge!

Then we went to find our seats way at the top of the stadium. Abby loved the game, all the clapping and cheering and music got her so excited.  The hard part was trying to get her to contain her excitement to our two squished seats and keep her from rolling down the steep stairs that were right on the other side of Eric.

And then poor girl started getting super tired.  But she wouldn't or couldn't fall asleep.  Too loud, too bright for her. So she alternated between getting really quiet and fussy, taking a break to clap her hands every now and then though.  It was also hard for her because I am still nursing her and a loud ballpark sure is not the place to trying to nurse a baby.  She kept asking to nurse and then just couldn't do it with all the distractions. It ended up being the longest stretch of her not nursing we have ever gone, since she didn't nurse from early afternoon until the next morning.

We called it quits at the top of the 7th inning and headed home.  Took a while, since we had to wait for the bus and then got stuck in downtown traffic.  Abby finally conked out on the bus ride home, poor girl.  Overall, it was fun - at least there were some fun parts.  Sure can't say I actually saw much of the game, but I'm glad we tried!

Hair

Look what I can do now with Abby's hair!  Yay! Now the next step is to get her to keep them in for more than one minute...

July fun

Haven't been too good at blogging lately.  It's just been so busy and there always seems to be other things I should be doing.  So here is a quick picture-filled post of July.

4th of July
We went to Old Town again this year and had lots of fun. It was definitely easier this year than last year with Abby!

After having fun in Old Town we had our Fourth picnic at Heritage Park

Went on a short hike (walk, really) on a trail above the park.

Fontana trip and cousins!
Went for a short weekend trip to visit my family.  All the local family came for a group birthday celebration which meant Abby got to play with lots of cousins.  Except for a couple minor incidents, she had loads of fun.

It was Laura and Scott's birthdays!

 Beach
Of course we spent some time at the beach.  This particular trip was worth noting because it was the first time Abby has almost been okay with the ocean.  She has always been afraid of it, but this time, after some coaxing from mom, she got to the point where she was playing in the water without holding onto me and without screaming.

Getting a little unsure here. :)

Temple
Abby and I had some errands up in the direction of La Jolla so we stopping off at the San Diego Temple. It was a beautiful day and Abby loved running in the grass.  Abby hadn't been since she was just a few months old so she was due for a trip!

On the Swing

Abby absolutely loves the swing, at least I think she does because she always wants to go straight to them whenever we go to the park (which is pretty frequently!).  Funny thing though is she rarely cracks a smile when she's actually in the swing, it's like it's super serious business.

So these are rare pictures of her actually looking like she enjoys these swings that she always wants to be in!

Abby video - Self-feeding with a spoon

Abby decided this week that she is ready for the spoon!  She grabbed mine while we were eating lunch the other day and went right at it like a pro.  We haven't even tried to show her how to do it, but I guess that little girl is pretty observant.

It's so cute how she is trying to eat with that huge spoon. :)

All night long - at last!

We had a wonderful 'first' last night.  Abby surprised us by sleeping the entire night straight through .  Not a peep from her the whole night - well, she did wake and cry for a second around midnight but then went right back to sleep (yay!). Eric and I both halfway woke up around 5am and I checked the time.  Surprised, I told Eric and he said that maybe I should go see if she was still breathing. :) Listening carefully, I could hear her breathing though, so I relaxed an enjoyed another hour of sleep before she woke up happy.

Wow. Now to see if she will ever do it again.  Keeping our fingers crossed for tonight!
